Television Appearances

Dr. Janet Taylor is a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at Columbia University affiliated Harlem Hospital.  The practice of Community Mental Health is extremely rewarding to Dr. Taylor, because "being on the frontline with individuals and their families battling the emotional and economic impact of Mental Illness is where I can make a difference".  She attended the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky for Undergraduate and Medical School.  An internship in Internal Medicine at the Miriam Hospital-Brown University followed.  Her psychiatric residency was completed at New York Medical College -Westchester Medical Center.  She received a Master’s of Public Health in Health Promotion/Disease Prevention from Columbia University.

Her medical experience is also international.  While living in Vancouver, British Columbia, she practiced Community Psychiatry at Greater Vancouver Mental Health.  During that time, Dr. Taylor developed an interest in Life Coaching and became a Certified Professional Coach through the Coaches Training Institute.  That experience led to the formation of her company, Mind Projects Inc., which specializes in Corporate Stress Management and Performance and Health Enhancement.

She is a frequently invited speaker on the subjects of Minority Health, Stress Management, Technostress and Work-Life Balance.  She was the featured speaker at Softworld 2000-Women Entrepreneurs in E-Commerce Symposium, where she spoke to over one hundred international businesswomen on the subject of Building Relationships in the Internet Era.  Dr. Taylor was also a contributing editor on technoculture to www.wiredwomen.com She is a frequent contributor to the CBS “ The Early Show,” and NBC “ The Today Show” on issues of motherhood and parenting.

Dr. Taylor also has a long history of volunteer service.  She is a Board Member of the National Black Women's Imperative, a Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Worker, and a Volunteer Facilitator with the Tree House Program-the Bereavement Center of Westchester. She also frequently speaks to adolescent youth about ethnicity, gender and self-esteem.

As the mother of four daughters, her interest in women's issues is deeply rooted.  Dr. Taylor was one of the invited panelists to the historic Black Women in the Academy, which convened on the campuses of MIT to discuss minority women and academia.  In addition, she has done numerous seminars, and talks on issues of work/life balance, parenting, and minority women and mental health.
